What Is a Tarot Year Card?
A tarot year card extends the birth card idea through time. Instead of your birth year, you use the year you want to explore. The resulting card is read as a theme for the year that runs from one birthday to the next.
How to Calculate Your Year Card
- Add the digits of your birth month and day.
- Add the digits of the year you are exploring.
- Reduce the total until it is 22 or less (22 is The Fool).
Example: a July 4 birthday in 2026 is 7 + 4 + 2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 21, The World. Our year card calculator does this for you.
Working With Your Year Card
Read the card as a question rather than a forecast: what does this archetype invite you to explore this year? Journaling and a yearly review are the most common uses.

Can my tarot birth card change?
Your birth cards are tied to your birth date, so they do not change. What changes is how you relate to them. Many readers see the cards as archetypes you grow into, with different qualities coming to the foreground at different stages of life.
